The Art of Men's Rings Versus the Art of Buying Men's Rings

My sense is that there would be little argument when debating this statement - there is an art in the crafting and fashioning of men's rings into styles that are eye-catching and highly in demand in today's fashion jewelry segment. One might even say the craftsmen and designers whose responsibility it is to dream up these fashions are more artisans and creators in their own right.

You've seen what I am talking about - designs so exquisite that one immediately appreciates the completed product more as a work of art than a mere jewelry design. Inlays of 18k Gold or Carbon Fiber or Emeralds ... suspended in the middle of a metallic bridge that appears to float on air.

I've also appreciated the vast differences in materials that these artisans have chosen when completing their designs - titanium to tungsten, ceramic to stainless steel. In today's fashion world it is not enough to simply create a compelling design - one must create a compelling design that lasts - I have seen the most stable resellers offering lifetime warranties ... this cannot be validated or justified without attention paid to the most exacting materials and design specifications. Fifty years ago we were lucky to receive a one-year warranty with a men's wedding band - a far cry from today's satisfaction guarantees.

Which brings us to the next topic of discussion - given the preceding argument in artistry - is it a credible argument to postulate that in today's prolific buying environment the actual purchase takes an artistry all of its own? Does one simply drive to the closest mall or strip center and browse? Is it as simple as 'letting your fingers do the walking' through the yellow pages? Does one ask a friend or a neighbor or in an "out of comfort zone" experience stop someone on the street whose finger sports a men's ring you have to have?

Enter online shopping. eBay? Google? Yahoo? Bing? MSN? The list goes on ... Twitter? YouTube? If you own a computer, if you can find a computer, you can open a whole new vista of shopping unheard of 10-15 years ago. I call this phenomenon the anti brick and mortar brigade. Walk to the office or the kitchen, not to the mall. Turn on the computer not the car. Save gas, not spend gas. Save time, not waste time. In today's fast-paced and ever-changing world of commerce - if one isn't an online shopping expert - one is simply old school. With PayPal and major credit cards, with secure web sites protected by an army of silent software engineers shopping online is not only simple, faster, easier and typically less expensive ... it is safer! Did I dare say that - safer to shop online?! Heresy. Lies. Imposturous. Guileful. Delusional.

I'll go a step further - it is a new form of shopping art. An art-form. It combines technological expertise with real-world savvy, freedom with expression, daring and cunning with satisfaction. You might argue with the term art-form but I think you might agree ... today's online shopping experience is novel and fresh and bold. I have noticed that when adults shop online, kids have a certain acceptance and appreciation for the way "old people" have stepped it up a notch!

So, whether its men's rings or a plethora of online widgets, now's the time to get with the program, venture out and try something new ... you'll be glad you did. And just watch how the younger generation look at you with admiration when you slide behind the computer instead of sliding behind the wheel!
