Major Brick-and-Mortar Retailers Using Wireless Marketing For Holiday Season: Wireless ASP GeePS Launches Service With Retailers at Palisades Center
WEST NYACK, NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 14, 2000 - GeePS.com Inc. - the first location-sensitive Wireless Applications Service Provider (WASP) focused on brick-and-mortar merchants and malls - today announced 50 retailers at Palisades Center mall have started using new voice and mobile commerce wireless technologies to deliver targeted, local shopping information and news to consumers in time for the busy holiday season.
In time for the critical holiday shopping season - the center has introduced its GeePS-developed "Go Power Shopping" program, enticing consumers to register and try the newest marketing technologies. Shoppers can receive money saving promotions on their cellular phone, wireless device, or standard e-mail by signing up to receive messages from their favorite categories and stores.
"GeePS is pleased with the response from the local and national retailers at Palisades Center. Enthusiasm is high as they explore the uses and enjoy the advantages of new marketing technologies. They like the quick-to-market and quick response they are getting from wireless advertising. This test is indicating that mobile messaging technologies have made the move from fiction to fact," said GeePS COO Arshad Masood. "The merchants at Palisades Center will have their holiday wishes come true by using new wireless technologies to reach consumers in their area on their chosen wireless devices."
Palisades Center (www.palcen.com) is a 4 level shopping center offering a combination of shopping, entertainment, dining and recreation, with over 250 brick-and-mortar retailers. The center's 20+ million annual visitors can register on Palisades Center's Web site (www.palcen.com) or through kiosks in the mall, and indicate the stores and categories from which they want to receive special promotional messages. As the retailers send these personalized real-time messages, they will appear on the media the consumer chooses - WAP, SMS, voice, or e-mail. In accordance with a GeePS strict privacy policy, the messages will be delivered on a pull/opt-in basis only. Consumers will not receive unwanted messages, nor will their information be sold to third parties.
"Palisades Center is a state-of-the-art shopping center...it's logical for us to be the first to provide wireless services," said Palisades Center general manager John Mott. "We're making holiday shopping easier for consumers with a unique shopping experience while helping our brick-and-mortar retailers profit from and compete with mobile commerce."
Participating retailers include Filene's, Restoration Hardware, Eddie Bauer, Brooks Brothers, Lord and Taylor, Old Navy, the IMAX Theatre, and Macaroni Grill. "We're excited to be on the cutting edge of new retail technologies," said Cara Halstead, Community Relations Manager for Barnes and Noble. "We look forward to a great holiday shopping season and inviting shoppers to visit us often with a more personalized touch through GeePS."
